Mireille Inez Koriciza interned in Cape Town between April 2013 and September 2013. She recently reached out to us with an update to reminisce about her internship and time spent in the Mother City!
Words from Mireille Inez Koriciza
“Born and raised in Africa, I went to Europe for my studies. In 2013, and as part of my academic and professional experience, I needed to accomplish an internship abroad. What a great way to go back to my roots! It’s in that context that I chose South Africa as a country to explore new opportunities while accomplishing an internship. When browsing through the internet, I came across the ‘’if I could… program’’.
I was delighted by the way they managed my application, responded to my emails with a proper and professional manner and by how they organized my internship from the start until the final day.
All in all, I can say that it was the best internship program for me and a chance to grab the opportunity to go to South Africa (Cape Town). I wanted to learn about the South African way of thinking and working, but most importantly I wanted to know the impact and the role of human rights in the South African society.
Additionally, working for a half a year in the human rights field gave me a great impression and influence on how working life is in the legal system which gave me a clear understanding on how I should live my life. I gained a lot of working experience, new impressions and met many interesting people.
Benefits of interning abroad
For me, the internship was a great benefit in terms of opening doors for future professional opportunities. The experience hugely developed my interest in human rights including a passion for development assistance and social sciences. It led me to apply for my current job experience which touches the communities and their livelihoods.
I am now working as an all-round development coordinator for a non-profit organization in Tanzania called C-re-aid in the Kilimanjaro region and I can say that if I could… is one of the best programs I have ever had. ”
Thank you, Mireille! We wish you all the best and so glad you had a wonderful time here with us in Cape Town!
