SriMilan Osika, our recent educational arts intern in Cape Town, shared her insights on how to fund an internship. Today, she shares highlight moments through pictures.
Work Becomes Play with an Internship in Cape Town
The following snapshots depict Sri’s first day of rehearsal whilst the cast staged their opening scene and also her final day at the amphitheater. She describes the love she experienced as “unreal” and considers her contribution as assistant director an honor. Sri often conducted the warm prior to commencing rehearsal. While the primary director staged, Sri worked with the cast collectively and often one to one developing their characters.
She mentions, “I didn’t realize the impact of the work and my commitment to them as their teacher until a number of them approached me on their own accord. They had become aware of their creativity and joy resulted from the challenge of what I asked of them”.
Embrace Local Beauty – People and Nature
Sri also spent what she describes as “the best birthday of her life” in Cape Town. The If i Could… team treated her to lunch at La Parada in beautiful Constantia before meeting up with friends for some live music. Afterward, they bought a bottle of wine and hit Llandudno Beach for sunset, rock climbing, and a freezing venture into the Atlantic.Meeting new friends and experiencing the beautiful nature of a different country is one of the greatest perks of interning abroad, and Sri’s pictures can most definitely confirm that.
Pushing the Boundaries
Traveling to a new country will also bring you face-to-face with a few challenges, many of which are actually incredibly fun! Sri decided to push the boundaries of her experience and do something wild by going bungee-jumping!
Breaking a Sweat
One of the best things about interning abroad with the guidance of a passionate organization is the support and inside tips received along the way. As an active person, it was important for Sri to keep fit and healthy. If i could… helped introduce her to various fun workout programs where she could break a sweat, keep routine and meet new people.
